SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

One of the star attractions at this year's Salthill Airshow near Galway in Ireland on July 6 will be a solo appearance by a Royal Netherlands Air Force Pilatus PC-7. The solo display aircraft is painted in the standard Dutch elementary training aircraft high-visibility colour scheme of yellow, red and white but during airshows is equipped with two smoke generators to accentuate the display routine, making the show visually more attractive.

The Pilatus PC-7 is operated by 131 Elementaire Militaire Vlieger Opleidingen (EMVO) Squadron at Woensdrecht Air Base in the south of the Netherlands. The squadron is responsible for the elementary pilot training for both the Air Force and Navy, after which fast jet pilot training is undertaken in the USA.

Also appearing at Salthill will be the RAF Red Arrows plus more unusual aircraft such as a Garda Air Support Unit Eurocopter EC135 and an Irish Coast Guard Sikorsky S61N Sea King. Aer Arann Express has confirmed the attendance one of its aircraft - possibly one of its new ATR72 66-seater commuter aircraft. The ATR72 is a stretched version of the 50-seater ATR42-300, four of which are operated by Aer Arann Express.

Aer Arann Express plans to exhibit one of its aircraft at the Salthill Airshow this year. Appearances by commercial airliners at airshows are very rare these days as airlines prefer to have their aircraft earning revenue at all times and not sitting on the tarmac.
