| Breitling and Blacoe Jewellers of
Galway are the new sponsors for the 2001 Salthill Air Show which takes place on
Sunday July 1. Breitling is the world's largest sponsor of aviation events and to have secured such a large company, thanks to the efforts of Robert Blacoe of Blacoe Jewellers in Galway is a major coup for the air show which will ensure sponsorship for the next three years at least and with the influence of Breitling in aviation should ensure top class acts for future air shows. This year's air show will be the biggest ever with displays from the German Air Force Tornado, the German Navy Tornado which is the first visit to Ireland of a German naval aircraft and US Air Force C130 Hercules, a large transport aircraft which organisers hope will be able to land in Galway. The show is set to feature US Air Force A-10 Thunderbolts, US Army Chinook helicopter one of the biggest in the world US Army Blackhawk helicopter, Apache helicopter, and French Air Force C160 Transall transport aircraft. The Aer Arainn Express ATR42, Aer Arann Islander, Irish Air Corps maritime patrol aircraft, Dauphin helicopter, Alouette helicopter, Marchetti aircraft, Irish Navy vessel LE Ciara, Irish Coastguard rescue helicopter, Aran Island Lifeboat, and Galway City lifeboat will also be taking part in the airborne extravaganza. Army weapons will be on display on the promenade, along with the Aer Lingus Iolar and a Russian Yak 52. Every one of the State services will be represented at the show and further participants are expected to be announced later. |
