![]() Wingwalkers set to go Utterly Butterly at Salthill Show The only professional wingwalking team in Europe are utterly delighted to be flying into Salthill Airshow on 4th July 2004 Slicing through the sky at 150mph, the deliciously daring wingwalkers will wave to the Salthill crowd from the top wing of their 1940s Boeing Stearman biplanes; Wingwalking is utterly amazing! says 30 year old wingwalker Kirsty, who is a chartered accountant in the winter, the views are incredible and the sensation literally uplifting. Why sit on the inside of an aircraft when you can stand on the wing! The wingwalkers plan to perform handstands on the wing 500 feet in the air and will wave through a mouth-watering sequence of loops rolls and stall turns. Pulling up to 4G (four times their own body weight) in the air, the wingwalkers need to be strong, agile and utterly determined to do their job. The Utterly Butterlys wingwalkers are 30 year old Kirsty and 25 year old Marie. During the winter the girls have high flying careers as a chartered accountant and a Sales Manager, but since landing the chance to experience wingwalking last summer the girls cant wait to don their yellow flying suits and experience the thrill of wingwalking over Salthill Show. My favourite part of the display is the final flypast, says Marie, for this manoeuvre we un-strap ourselves from our harness on the top wing and climb to a position halfway between the wing and the cockpit, the wind pressure is immense and we hold on with one hand while waving with the other for a knife edge pass at 100mph! The Utterly Butterlys have not been to Galway for several years but we are totally thrilled to be flying in this summer and know we will receive an utterly fantastic reception.
