| Aer Lingus
was formed by the Irish government in April 1936 to provide air services
from Ireland, and the name Aer Lingus is an anglicization of Aer Loingeas,
the Irish for air fleet.
The first Aer Lingus
flight took off from Dublin to Bristol on 27th May 1936. The aircraft was
a deHavilland Dragon DH-84 registration EI-ABI. This aircraft was
named the Iolar, meaning Eagle, and a replica aircraft was restored
to airworthy condition for our 50th anniversary in 1986. The Iolar appears
regularly at airshows in Ireland and the U.K |
